Nala

Not a product. The intelligence across the ecosystem.

An intelligent organization layer over your Light Table.

Structure the shoot before you decide. Suggested, not decided. Reversible, not destructive.

Structure first. Judgment stays yours.

Decisions taken for you. Nala suggests — you decide.

Nala structures heavy shoots before you judge: series, sharpness, duplicates, order. Your eye stays in charge; it just starts from order instead of chaos.

The trust problem

Bad AI creates homework.

If an assistant saves ten minutes and creates twenty minutes of verification, it failed.

Nala is designed around a different principle: start where trust can be earned.

The goal is not to make photographers supervise an algorithm. The goal is to make the shoot easier to understand before the photographer begins making decisions.

Simple. Visible. Easy to check. That is the starting point.

The methodology behind every signal — grouping, bursts, near-duplicates, focus — is documented openly in the Algorithms Lab and the AI Transparency Lab. No black box to take on faith.

Structure, not verdict. The AI metaphor here is not a robot. It is a prepared table: groups, patterns, series and candidates made visible before the photographer decides.

Order before intelligence

Photographers have always grouped before deciding.

Nala is a new intelligence layer, but the idea is familiar: arrange the visual material so the eye can work with less friction.

Nala prepares the Light Table. The photographer decides.

Structure before judgment

Before choosing, you need to understand the shoot.

A real project can be spread across several folders, SD cards, cameras and sessions. Nala’s first role is to help turn that visual mess into something structured, digestible and ready to review.

01 · TIME

Moments and shooting gaps

Group the shoot into natural chapters by time, rhythm and transitions, so the day starts to make visual sense.

02 · EXIF

Camera and lens groups

Use camera, lens and metadata patterns to reveal useful review structures without moving files on disk.

03 · CARDS & FOLDERS

Multi-folder and SD card consolidation

Bring several folders or cards into a clearer working session before the edit begins.

04 · TIMELINE

Multi-camera timeline reconstruction

Rebuild a more readable timeline when a project spans several bodies or capture sources.

September private preview

The first Nala layer focuses on visible, verifiable help.

The September private preview is planned around practical organization that photographers can see, understand and check quickly.

01 · GROUPING

EXIF, time, camera and lens

Useful structures based on objective shooting context before subjective image choice begins.

02 · BURSTS

Burst candidates

Similar high-speed sequences become review groups instead of fatigue.

03 · STACKS

Focus stack candidates

Potential focus-stack series are surfaced as candidates, not final edits.

04 · SIMILARITY

Similar-frame groups

Near visual neighbors can be reviewed together so the best frame emerges faster.

05 · DUPLICATES

Duplicate and near-duplicate detection

Obvious redundancy becomes visible and easy to verify.

06 · CONSOLIDATION

Folders, SD cards and cameras

Large mixed inputs become a more digestible review session inside Cull Me uP.

Signals, not verdicts

A group is not a decision. A signal is not your taste.

Nala does not decide what matters. It prepares the Light Table so the photographer can decide faster, with more context and less friction.

A similar-frame group is not a creative judgment.

A focus stack candidate is not an edit.

A duplicate warning is not a replacement for your eye.

That distinction matters. Nala’s role is to make structure visible, not to hide decisions inside a black box.

Why this approach

Bad AI creates homework. That is exactly what Nala is designed to avoid.

My background is not in adding AI labels to products.

I co-founded Witbe, a company built around automated testing and real-time monitoring of video services, used by major operators, broadcasters, TV channels and streaming platforms around the world.

Photography is not video monitoring. But the trust problem is familiar.

Automation becomes valuable only when people can trust what it sees. Nala follows that principle: visible groups, simple signals, easy verification, and no claim to understand taste before trust has been earned.

What Nala will not do

No hidden verdict. No taste score. No silent decisions.

The point is not to make photographers review the AI. The point is to make the shoot easier to review.

01

It will not silently delete images.

Nala does not remove files or make irreversible choices. The photographer remains in control.

02

It will not hide your files.

Organization is presented as visible structure inside the working session, not as a hidden database decision.

03

It will not replace taste with a score.

Nala can surface candidates and signals, but it does not pretend that creative judgment is a number.

04

It will not force trust in a black box.

Trust is built through visible structures, simple signals and easy correction.

Where this goes next

From large shoots to team projects.

A later direction for Nala is multi-photographer project structuring.

That V2 direction is about helping teams merge several contributors into one digestible review session without losing the origin, rhythm or context of the shoot.

The ambition is not to make the photographer disappear. It is to make complex visual material easier to enter, understand and work through.

Not a product

Nala is a layer, not a tier.

Nala is not sold as a separate product, and it is not a paywall on what you bought. It is the intelligence across the CMP ecosystem — it organizes, suggests, remembers and reveals patterns inside Cull Me uP, Studio and Pulse.

The tools you own stay yours. Nala simply helps you see them more clearly. It never rates your photographs and never overrides your eye. The photographer decides. Always.

Order before judgment.

Nala had already grouped the burst series when I sat down. I only judged the ones that deserved judging.
